Reminders for CGC Class

Hi Everyone,

Well done to all our CGC Students. You did very well.

Homework:

Heelwork… straight, turn right, turn left. TIP: signal the turn ahead of time, with hand/shoulder position, give commands early so your dog has time to react, watch for distractions and work that bit harder to keep your dog’s attention
Stays: Build gradually, work on the elements you need to perfect. Watch out for Sensitive spots: when you first set off, when you get a certain distance, when you turn, when you approach the dog.
Relaxation: Sitting beside you, hand in collar, for a minute or two (build gradually)
Proofing Heelwork with distractions: work around large items (vacuum, chairs, boxes, cans, watering can, etc) around sheets of paper on the floor, etc
Meet and Greet: with a partner, practice approaching, sitting dog and handshake/brief conversation. If alone, act it out as if someone is there. Speak, reach out, etc.

Get out of Jail Cards: Puppy recall and forward into heel; 360 pivot; D exercise

Build sit at heel using wall on one side

Remember, Head collars and No Pull harnesses are not allowed during tests. Neither are treats, although you may reward your dog between exercises. You need to start working without treats or head collars etc. Start by clipping leash to normal collar but leave head collar on, then remove…

Don’t panic! Anticipate problems and work it. If it goes wrong, re-gain composure and control and carry on!

See you next week! Happy Practicing.
